Subaru Outback 2021 - intentionally leaving keyfob inside a locked vehicle

Purpose: sometimes when you do outdoor activities like swimming, kayaking, cycling etc, it's better not to bring keyfob with you as it could be lost or submerged in water, ouch!

So this tip is about intentionally leaving your keyfob inside your locked vehicle!

Prior to doing the steps below, make sure that you already have PIN code-based access sorted for your vehicle. See owner's manual for details.

1) Open driver door and lock all doors by pushing the door lock button on the door (not keyfob door lock).

2) Ensure driver door lock lever is at forward position (lock position)

3) On your keyfob, press LOCK and REAR GATE at same time for at least 5 seconds. You should hear a long beep.

NOTE: keyless system is now disabled.

4) Put keyfob inside car (eg under driver seat)

5) Close driver door by keeping door handle open.

6) Once close, release door handle.

7) All doors should be locked at this step. Confirm.

8) To unlock doors, use PIN code-based access.

9) To enable keyless system, open driver door and put driver door lock lever at forward position (lock position)

10) On your keyfob, press LOCK and REAR GATE at same time for at least 5 seconds. You should hear a short beep.

11) End
